2.8 Technology Integration

Technology is integrated effectively into classroom instruction and is used as a teacher resource tool for instructional planning, instructional delivery, assessment, monitoring student progress, and communicating information.

The first rule of any technology used in a business is that automation applied to an efficient operation will magnify the efficiency. The second is that automation applied to an inefficient operation will magnify the inefficiency.

Linking Technology, Learning, and School Change
Using a vignette format, the authors examine one teacher's (a composite character) inquiry-based classroom at one point in time and then again three years later. Although technology was involved in both cases, once the school and district replaced the computer coordinator with an "educational technologist," substantive changes in teaching and learning became apparent. The educational technologist worked closely with the teachers and district personnel to deepen the curriculum with the help of technology, to provide embedded professional development, to support systemic change, and to support learning communities.
