3.3 Assessment According to Standards

Teachers assess learning, formulate classroom benchmarks based on standards, and communicate the results to students and families with respect to students' abilities to meet Arizona Academic Standards.

In order to answer the board member's questions about student achievement, the schools had to move beyond anecdotal evidence of greater student engagement to a systematic way of demonstrating student achievement that provided much better information than standardized test scores or subjective, nonspecific teacher comments, such as "Great work."

This web-based interactive data tool allows users to find preliminary information on high-poverty and or high-minority schools whose students receive high scores on state assessments. Thus, one can identify high-performing or improving schools based on demographic and achievement criteria. It is cautioned that the data posted do not provide a complete picture of each school and should be used in association with other information available from individual schools.
