4.5 Positive Relationships with Students

Teachers and staff build positive, nurturing relationships with students and work to improve student attendance, dropout rates, and graduation rates.

Students who feel supported by their teachers (e.g., feel their teachers are involved with them, provide support for their autonomy, and provide structure in the form of high, clear, and fair expectations) are more likely to be engaged in their schooling. This engagement results in better academic performance and achievement.
