Consolidating several technology grants into a single state grant program, EETT's primary goal is to improve student academic achievement through effective use of technology in schools. It is also designed to help students cross the digital divide by ensuring that each is technologically literate by the end of eighth grade, and to encourage the effective integration of technology with teacher training and curriculum development to establish successful research-based instructional methods. Events Technology Information Center for Administrative Leadership March 20, 2008 School administrators are busy people with a big job to do! The Internet offers a tremendous range of information, tools, and resources that can help administrators lead their schools and districts to excellence. But what administrator has time to search and sift through hundreds of web pages to find the right resource for right now? In this webinar, Jason Borgen, Program Coordinator of the Technology Information Center for Administrative Leadership (TICAL), will lead a guided tour of portical.org, which helps administrators in finding resources to assist in the day-to-day needs of their jobs, whether they are site level principals or district superintendents. These resources have been collected and organized by a cadre of technology-savvy, practicing administrators and meet criteria judged to be of value to other administrators. Simkins will also share information about the upcoming Leadership 3.0 Symposium that TICAL is co-sponsoring with California Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) and the Computer Using Educators (CUE). Tools for Literacy: Technology to Support Reading Comprehension and Vocabulary Development October 24, 2007 Technology provides a new opportunity to remove barriers to learning and improve the literacy skills of all students. Through discussion and demonstration, Kathleen H. McClaskey, President of EdTech Associates, and Joan Sedita, founding partner of Keys To Literacy, will introduce participants to accessible desktop and “no cost” online tools that can be used to support the teaching and learning of reading comprehension and vocabulary strategies. Suggestions will be provided for how these technology tools can be used to develop topic webs and graphic organizers; identify, highlight, and pull out main ideas and details into notes; generate summaries; and support word-study skills such as focusing on word parts and creating semantic webs. This event will emphasize the importance of direct comprehension and vocabulary instruction, as well as how to integrate the technology tools into this instruction. Using Flexible Technology to Meet the Needs of Diverse Learners October 11, 2006 Making the general curriculum accessible to all students is an important aspect of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). During this interactive presentation Julie Duffield, Research Associate at WestEd, and Lisa Wahl, education and assistive technology consultant, will introduce a Web site, Technology to Support Diverse Learners, to show how some existing technology resources already available at most schools — talking text, Web resources, graphic organizers, and word processors — can be used to help give students access to the curriculum as well as to help differentiate instruction. The presentation will include examples from schools and districts using standard technology to tailor instruction for diverse students.
