Description
This interactive, online event will present an overview and examples of using technology to support California English Language Arts adoptions such as Open Court Reading 2002 (K-6), Houghton Mifflin Reading: A Legacy of Literacy (K-6), and Holt Literature and Language Arts (6th-8th).
An increasing number of districts in California have written technology plans and are receiving Enhancing Education Through Technology (EETT) formula funding from No Child Left Behind. One requirement of EETT is that 25% of the funds be spent on staff development. While technology specialists in districts are currently purchasing hardware, software and determining staff development needs, districts are also in the process of adopting English Language Arts programs and providing training opportunities for their teachers to learn to use the new materials.
Many district technology plans have targeted English Language Arts as the key curriculum area for technology integration. So the question, then, is how can technology be used in support of the adopted ELA programs? These programs frequently mention using computers (for example, the Internet for research) without giving teachers explicit guidance in effective strategies for teaching with technology tools.
Participants in this online event will get an overview of adoption specific training offered by Sacramento County Office of Education, CTAP Region 3 that covers:
