Description

This interactive presentation with Russlynn Ali, Director of Education Trust West, has been designed for school and district administrators working in or with low-performing schools and addressed the most pressing questions about achievement gaps in California.

What do we know about achievement gaps in California? How big are they? What do they mean for our students and our economy? What causes them? What can we do to close them?

This online event will do the following:

  • provide an overview of the data about achievement gaps in California;
  • present data on California's"opportunity gaps," the gaps in resources and support for low-income and minority students that are responsible for achievement gaps;
  • highlight schools, districts, and states that are closing the gap, debunking the myths that low-income and minority students are doomed to low performance because of their backgrounds; and
  • detail best practices used by schools and districts nationwide that are successfully closing the gap.
