Rebecca Herman, Ph.D., a Principal Research Scientist at the American Institutes for Research in Washington, DC, specializes in evaluating, designing, and conducting research on educational improvement, setting standards for the quality of educational research, and reviewing research based on those standards. Dr. Herman directed the What Works Clearinghouse and was also project director of the Educators' Guide to Schoolwide Reform, which provided a critical look at the research and implementation of the most prominent and promising comprehensive school reform efforts in this country. Dr. Herman holds an M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from Johns Hopkins University.
