As part of a series of WestEd-sponsored webinars related to education goals of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), Robert Linquanti, Director for English Learner Evaluation and Accountability Support in WestEd's Comprehensive School Assistance Program, will moderate a panel of four researchers from the English Language Learner (ELL) Working Group: Diane August, Senior Research Scientist at the Center for Applied Linguistics; Kenji Hakuta, Professor in the Graduate School of Education at Stanford University; Jennifer O'Day, Principal Research Scientist at the American Institutes for Research; and Charlene Rivera, Director of the Center for Equity and Excellence in Education at George Washington University. Panel members will discuss the ELL Working Group's recommendations for using ARRA funds wisely to meet the needs of our nation's English learners. This webinar is targeted to educational policymakers and leaders at the state and local (district and school) levels.
The ELL Working Group was convened by researchers at Stanford University, the Center for Applied Linguistics, and the American Institutes for Research, and consists of researchers with extensive experience in educating English learners and a substantial understanding of the research on effective strategies for this population. The recommendations to the U.S. Department of Education, states, districts, and advocates for English learners are based on the group's knowledge, experience, and sense of where opportunities for innovation may be found.
