What Are We Doing to Middle School English Learners? Findings and Recommendations for Change from a Study of California EL Programs (Narrative Summary)

This summary provides an accessible overview of English learner (EL) programs in California middle schools. Researchers from the Quality Teaching for English Learners (QTEL) program at WestEd surveyed middle schools in the California school districts with the highest concentrations of English learners. Excerpts from case study observations in a subset of schools provide context for the highlighted recommendations for change.
