Description

In this webinar, you will learn about a rigorous ten-step process to define turnaround schools in California developed by the American Institutes for Research, as part of the California Comprehensive Center at WestEd. Researcher Mette Huberman will share the research methodology and the strategies most often cited as contributing to nine schools' turnaround success. The principal at General Grant Middle School, along with one of her teachers, will then share their school's turnaround story, which includes a focus on staff collaboration and teamwork, academic vocabulary for all students, extended learning time for students not meeting standards, and improvement of instruction through PLCs with a focus on clear instructional strategies.

While the research study focuses on California schools, educators from around the nation will find the strategies applicable to their contexts.
