What instructional practices are most likely to lead African American male students to excel academically?
The quality of instruction influences the quality and quantity of learning for all students, but especially for African American males. For the past six years, the National Center for Urban School Transformation (NCUST) has been identifying and studying urban schools that achieve outstanding academic results for all students, including African American males. These studies have pinpointed practices that lead African American male students to excel.
In this webinar, Dr. Joseph F. Johnson, Jr., NCUST Executive Director and Professor of Educational Leadership at San Diego State University will provide information about the instructional practices that make a difference. As well, the webinar will discuss strategies for changing instructional practices in schools.
Specific topics to be addressed are:
- Key instructional practices that influence the extent to which African American males are likely to learn rigorous academic content
- Key instructional practices that influence the commitment and engagement of African American males
- School-wide practices that influence changes in classroom instruction
This webinar series is especially designed for county office of education staff, district administrators, school counselors, principals, and teacher leaders. This webinar will be hosted by Dr. Rose Owens-West, Center Director, Region IX Equity Assistance Center at WestEd.
"High-Quality Instruction that Promotes Learning and Achievement" is the second of three webinars in the series, "Improving Academic Outcomes for African American Males," that will address equity concerns for African American males in K-12 public education settings.
