Understanding How to Navigate the Map of Standards for English Learners (Introductory)

This interactive, online presentation will help participants understand and use the Map of Standards for English Learners: Integrating Instruction and Assessment of ELD and ELA Standards in California. The Introductory Session is designed for participants who are unfamiliar with the Map of Standards for English Learners and will help those participants understand how to navigate the map and its uses for powerful teaching.

This session will introduce the basics about the organization of the Map of Standards for English Learners as a foundation for powerful teaching. This session is designed for teachers, teacher-leaders, and administrators who are familiar with fundamental teaching strategies, i.e. English Language Development and Specially-Designed Academic-Instruction in English, for English learners.

Participants will have the opportunity to navigate the Map and ask the author clarifying questions to ensure understanding. Participants will discuss with the author the variety of ways that the Map is a practical tool that can support good teaching.
