The purpose of this document from the California Department of Education is to inform school and district personnel of the new accountability provisions for Local Education Agencies required by Title III of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. It provides an overview of the requirements for annual assessment of English language proficiency, annual measurable achievement objectives (AMAOs), the process for developing the AMAOs, Title III accountability reports, accountability for meeting the AMAOs, and a timeline of events.
