Urban teacher residencies are a paradigm of teacher recruitment and development aimed at supplying the nation's cities with teachers who possess both content-area knowledge and the skills to close the achievement gap. This report discusses the features of Boston's and Chicago's urban teacher residency programs. The report explains the process of launching such programs, presents data on retention and feedback from school principals, and proffers advice on the long-term financing of urban teacher residencies.
