Abstract (written by WestEd)

This issue of the Head Start Bulletin is aimed at supporting English learners and addresses the following topics: working with communities and families, strategies for educational leaders, teachers' perspectives, and assessment. The issue provides examples of best practices from Early Head Start programs from locations as widespread as Washington D.C., Northern Virginia, Puerto Rico, and Alaska. The resources section enumerates classroom strategies to support positive child outcomes for English learners. The issue also provides a list of general resources and a "webliography."

R&D Alert® Vol. 3, No. 2

WestEd has worked extensively over the years to understand and overcome the challenges of "low-performing schools." Our work includes direct services and research both in and out of school settings to increase the education opportunities for all children. And we develop resources and research to help policymakers better support schools and communities. This issue of R&D Alert includes a sampling of what we have learned from our work in these areas.
