This guide, developed through a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs, is designed to help teams of policymakers, practitioners, and advocates implement inclusive practices. Six policy areas are discussed and each includes a summary of research in the area. There are “key points” and indicators provided for each of the policy areas to help assess the extent to which the evidence of inclusive practice and policy already exists in an organization. The suggested use of the embedded instrument is to clarify or identify (1) policy barriers to inclusive practices; (2) gaps between policy and practice; and/or (3) levels of communication between the state and local districts.
