Abstract (written by WestEd)
This article highlights how Poway Unified School District transformed itself into a data-driven district. The author describes the district's development, use, and application of a customized Web-enabled data system and a benchmark-assessment tool. The system is complex enough for data analysis in the central office and user-friendly enough for teachers to gather data to make instructional decisions. Teachers regularly share the data collected with students as well as their goals, so both teachers and students know where the work needs to be done and why.
