Abstract (written by WestEd)
A research study of eight schools that achieved meaningful improvement in student achievement, and that also won the U.S. Department of Education's National Award for Model Professional Development, has been distilled into this story of successful school reform. A culture of learning for teachers, students, the entire community pervades these schools (six elementary, one middle, and one high school), and this book provides a glimpse of what that looks like. Teacher voices, vignettes, and school profiles give life to the guiding principles that researchers identified across these disparate sites. Annotated lists of resources provide concrete help for school site and district leaders to put these principles into practice.
