Are you interested in expanding choice options in your district? Are you trying to find more effective ways to communicate with hard-to-reach parents in your district? Are you seeking ideas to improve program evaluation?
This interactive presentation will provide an overview of a free, online toolkit, www.buildingchoice.org, which features practices from programs across the country that are addressing these issues in a variety of ways.
During this presentation, Pansy Houghton, Supervisor of Choice for Hillsborough County Public Schools (Florida), and Willie Poinsette, Chief Officer Student, Family and School Support for Portland Public Schools (Oregon), will share their promising practices and materials that are featured on the site. Kristin Mitchell, Vice President of Edvance Research, will moderate this event.

The presenters will also demonstrate how you can find resources to help implement or expand your school choice offerings including:
promising practice vignettes descriptions of how leaders operate their choice program
sample materials downloadable forms, brochures, and other materials a program has created and used as part of a promising practice
tools templates and processes, developed specifically for the toolkit for your use in creating or managing a choice program
links helpful Web sites, articles, and organizations
profiles of featured programs
The Web site draws upon practices of programs that are on the leading edge of expanding educational options for families. Many of the programs have been featured in the Innovations in Education Book Series developed by WestEd and published by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Innovation and Improvement.
