This first of a series of archived webcast programs, Response to Intervention (RtI) - Why Now?, describes the reasons behind moving educational service delivery systems to a RtI model. Top educators from across the nation will provide information on implementing a multi-tier RtI system aligned with NCLB that is designed to improve child academic and behavioral outcomes. The presenters provide rationales from research, policy and practice.
This project is a collaboration between the California Department of Education's Special Education Division and Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) to allow the development of a web-based training program for general and special education personnel to provide information recent changes in federal law in relation to students with disabilities. RtI is a process that focuses on early intervention designed to prevent learning failure. It involves a system level response that identifies students who are not making adequate progress on the California standards in the critical areas of reading, mathematics and written language. This approach recognizes the critical influence of student behavior on learning and incorporates a problem solving process to address behavior issues.
